Rocky Mountain/Colorado Bristlecone Pine. Pinus aristata. also known as Hickory Pine or Pricklecone Pine. Well established 1 year old tree in a nursery pot. Bristlecone Pines are native to the mountains of southwestern United States and is one of the oldest trees on earth. This very slow growing specimen tree is a natural dwarf only growing between 8-20 feet tall with 10-15 feet spread. Their wide trunk can get to be three feet in diameter with dark reddish brown bark. In their natural mountain environment, Bristlecone trunks can lean and become twisted. These unique trees have dense bushy aromatic blue green needles, often dotted with white resin. Grow well in a variety of soil types including dry, infertile, and rocky with good drainage. Sun loving-six or more hours of direct sunlight daily. When young these trees like frequent watering. USDA Hardiness Zones: 4a, 4b, 5a, 5b, 6a, 6b, 7a & 7b.
